Sealed beams tend to be an enemy of aerodynamics, mostly because American regulations forbid the fitment of any flush cover to headlights. Didn't apply to Brazil, yet this local GMC (technically more related to the C2500 despite the 3500 HD badging) was still alligned to that rule.

Not sure how much of a drag penalty is the spare tire location under this tonneau cover.

That spare tire seams hidden just inside the rear wake, so shouldn't be bad.
What is worse are those bars behind the rear window: they protrude above the roof just enough to be in the flow of air leaving the trailing edge of the cab's roof.

Since '68 any decorative or protective element in front of sealed-beams was outlawed. No wonder the US-Spec Jaguar E-Type that I used to see near home didn't have glass bubbles in front of the headlamps as its Euro-spec counterpart had. The same for the Alfa Romeo Spider.

That sounds right. Do you have a reference?

I haven't run sealed beam headlights since the mid-1980s

I guess the loophole the aluminum tape slips through is those are Hella H-4s.
