These are great photos, love it. I "wish" in some of these Wind Tunnel photos they would use more smoke trails so we could see how the flow over the roof interacted with the flow along the sides. It seems the car companies always show one line of smoke hitting the mid grill area or higher, and then it's line over the roof to show what "Wonderful" aero their car has.

I agree, which is why the below recently posted image is so rare a find.

A 3/4 view from the rear would be nice to add to this.

..and a view from above. It looks like the flow over the Right side of the grill goes around the right side of the car but the one over the Left side goes over the roof...? But there is two different points where the smoke was started on the Left side of the grill area that kind of combine into one.

And another image, just to illustrate how useless that smoke trails are to all but the experts :
Just look at how streamlined James Mays' face is !

When looking at the enlarged image,it seems like they did a time-lapse photo with the smoke wand in four different positions, and not necessarily symmetrical to one another, side to side.

aerohead...yes I saw that. Boy if they would do that on a grid pattern all across the front, ground level to the roof line.....then we'd really see the whole "picture".

Fear not. I just can't think of something stupid to say each time.

Test me.
What I see in post #219 and third image in post #216 is the smoke loosing all definition in the flow, becoming one hazy cloud adjacent to the body. In post 219, I'm assuming this effect reflects the higher pressures at the front of the roof that then drop as we move aft. And in the thrid image in post 216 it might be a similar presure effect compounded by the turbulence created by the front wheel well.
Assuming I'm in the general ballpark of understanding these images, post 219's image, which seems to be unusually close to the template ideal at the front end and along the roof line, suggests strongly the limits of front end aero. Won't the wake on this body be quite large without boat tailing?
Also, the third image in post 216 suggests that a skirt on the rear wheel wells will have much less benefit without front wheel well skirts, yes? Expect turbulence.
