rear veiw cameras.

I was at a local store the other day and noticed that they had these cameras for sale for $89.99 and thought that looked just like what someone might want if they had alot of aero mods on their vehicle.
I have not tried these yet, but it's wireless and looks to be pretty compact with a reasonably clear image on the one set up as a store display.

I was looking at those last summer, they do look pretty neat, they are setup to turn on when the back up lights are on so you'd need to hard wire power to it. The other thing is you can only run one, I had thought about mirror deletes with two of these but they will interfere with each other. I have also heard wifi and other RF can mess up the images so I never bought them to try it.

Coyote X has cameras for side view mirrors in his Metro. Not sure what style/kind he's got.

I've seen them too - in WalMart, no less. But for me wireless is the problem. I just wouldn't trust it to be reliable enough for a rear-view mirror replacement.

If you could find a good price on a small LCD you could setup a webcam to a laptop in the trunk then hardwire the LCD up front. If you did this you could probably have a camera on each side running back to the cheapo trunkputer then either run two small LCD's or one LCD setup with a split screen for each side.

Cost would definitely be higher but you'd eliminate the wireless element and get rid of your two exterior mirrors.

You would have to do some rubber mounting of the trunkputer and definitely need a rugged laptop HDD or run a solid state hdd to keep it alive for more then 2-3 trips (at least in the northeast where potholes can eat metro's)

Hi,

What sort of RF signal is it using? Is it Bluetooth?

I believe it was bluetooth, I'll research and edit I found it on a spec page at one point.

# can you use two camera systems at once? Will they interfear with each other or is there a way to set the channels? Thanks

* It should be fine to have two cameras mounted on separate vehicles, as it is rare that both vehicles would be in reverse at the same time. However, the cameras will interfere with each other if both of them are active at the same time. The result is that the display will get confused about which source it should read from.

That is from the VR3 camera system which is the one I looked at last year, I can't find anything about "peak" which is the one you linked.

And i'm pretty sure I read somewhere that it was bluetooth but I can't seem to find it now.

I suspect Bluetooth is way too slow for video.
