Removing Side Mirrors for Fuel Economy

There used to be a time when economy cars didn’t always have a passenger side mirror. For example, the CRX HF, which notably had a drag coefficient of 0.29, didn’t always come with one (depending on the market). 21 years past the first production of the 2nd generation CRX we can’t speculate on Honda’s motivations, [...]Related posts:

Any results?

Hi Ben,

Have you had this long enough to notice any results?

I've had it a day and haven't driven the car yet

I'll post up in the DIY forum at some point.

You can find mirror block plates from Majestic, for those interested. They're not horribly expensive, either.

Not for the CRX! Honda doesn't make them anymore.

You can get some from JDM importers though.

You wouldn't happen to have a part # for the 5th gen Civics, would you? I checked my year & model (1994 Civic VX) and I can see the block plate in the pic (Honda Automotive Parts, looks like item #13 in the pic), but there's no corresponding part number in the parts order list.

:O

Looks like they don't have them, then... you can call a dealer and see if you can get them, but I can't guarantee that they're in stock for anyone.

Inversely, you could always make your own, with a simple piece of sheet metal and the OEM mirror gasket. If I still had my Civic, or a mirror from it, I'd show a How-To on how to make them quickly (like 15 mins quickly), but I can explain it in PM if you need me to.

You can find them in junkyards all over the country, too. I just gave away a pair of block-offs to some friends who didn't want the mirrors for weight reasons... (Auto-X)
