The way we have gone on damming our rivers is pure demonic. we have killed off so many species of wild fish and marine life just so you could power your plutonium refinery or so you could watch your idiot tube on your 100 inch TV!
However I do agree that small to medium dams meeting the needs of local people can be extremely ecological and highly effective!
For anyone wanting to know the kinds of damage we have done with bazillions of our dams throughout the world must watch the wonderful documentary, "DamNation" - 2014!

One could cast that in the third person. I don't even have a 100 inch TV, let alone a Plutonium refinery.
Tidal power is distinctly different. You can tap it with an oscillating water column, Low-head hydropower from gravity vortex dams.
Quote:
The turbine's aeration of the water helps improve water conditions, while the reduced speeds of the turbine and the lack of cavitation ensure that most types of fish can pass through the turbine without danger, something which is much more difficult to achieve at normal hydro plants that require additional structures for the fish migration.

Sure hydro power is great in some regions and a disaster in others. Whenever it's possible to build one without a dam, it's the best.

A few years ago the only TV I had at home was a 5.5" black-and-white CRT. Sure a CRT might've still had a proportionately higher energy consumption than some LED or LCD ones, and was also requiring a digital converter before I got rid of it.

freebeard, I don't mean specifically you. But the proponents of Mega Hydro! The largest dam in the US and for many decades in the world, The Grand Coulee Dam was specifically built for refining plutonium. That dam produces so much electricity that it gets exported as far as Colorado and New Mexico! Meanwhile it is pretty much devoid of any Salmon that used to be found in abundance! And guess what, they have another 13 dams raping the same magnificent Columbia River!

Salmon be dammed . The only environment that matters is the human environment.
If people don't want to live in modernity, they can wander off into the wilderness and attempt to scrape by hunting and gathering. There won't be many following them into hunger and cold.
Funny how it's ok for "nature" to affect populations of species, but rape only if the human species has anything to do with it. It's non-sequitur on multiple fronts.

Sure! Most of the newer large LED or LCD TVs don't consume much power but I'm sure a 100 inch one powered most of the time will consume plenty!
Also don't forget that those 100 inch idiot boxes come in Mega McMansions with central heating and cooling that consumes a $hitload of energy or electricity!
Also, these folks aren't exactly content to get around in small Geo Metros. No, They usually haul around their gym-fit asses in a MASSIVE Escalade or the like...we could go on and on!...

redpoint5, do you happen to be from Eugene, OR? Because i ran into many antagonistic, nonsensical drone Satanists like you up there when I was traveling!
And if you think that Mega Hydro dam is modern and advanced compared to some of the energy technologies developed but buried by the power structure then you have to go back to school!

That are a lot of accusations in as many words.
Since I value Redpoint5 for anything but your description, I fear these mirror badly to yourself. If the curses and derogatory language weren't enough.
You care for wildlife, we get that. You also have to care for people, especially those in this forum.
I cannot predict what the moderators would do, I'm not one of them (not here at least) but if they are thinking what I'm thinking then you may be living on borrowed time.
Take care.

I think you did not let your daddy read that. Again, take care.
