Sure, everything should be improved, but it's the battery that sucks.
Tesla spends something like $600 for their high efficiency motor. Kinda peanuts compared to the battery.

That why this NEW technology for battery/electrolite, will change things, making such problems much more reduced.
It's just the start, since there is still the new battery architecture to come, as for now they (Mercedes-Benz) will just try out the new electrolyty.

Uhnn... the author of this news article suggested that it's not just the Goodenough&Braga electrolyte that will be used, but their battery design too :
"It is worth noting that the cooperation between Mercedes-Benz AG and Hydro-Québec involves solid-state batteries, not only the solid-glass electrolyte. That means that other research from Goodenough and Braga about that could also end up in Mercedes-Benz vehicles or even on Smart, which is now an EV-only brand under Geely’s responsibility.
That means we could see a solid-state cell that increases its energy capacity with time, as Goodenough and Braga announced back in 2018. More than that, these cells could be on Daimler vehicles as soon as they reach production status."
https://insideevs.com/news/397087/da...d-state-cells/
But it's not clear, since it can be a battery design from them or other, or even a new design from Goodenough&Braga partnering woth Hydro-Québec. So the author it's more guessing than concluding things.
Anyway Maria Braga couldn'tell me much, since details are confidential, but she said it would be more than just the use of their electrolyte.
I would expect a very nice advancement for batteries, in a year or two to market. But for the battery design able to increase capability after many charge/discharge cyclos, I believe it can take more time for get market.

Have you talked to Maria Braga again recently?

The only Elon in that is him in 2017 asking to see a sample.
I think there's room for competing technologies. The Maxwell solventless electrode manufacturing sounds promising. They project a roadmap to 500 wh/kg. That's the threshold for Elon's VTOL supersonic jet plane.

But he also said : "Otherwise STF." (shut the f...ck).
That's something very unkind to say to a scientist with Goodenough's reputaion.
I talked (chat) with Maria Helena Braga, but she can't tell me more than she tells to newspaper. One thing she told me was confirmed, since months ago she told me that some companies had already confirmed her results and would partnership, and now in 2020 the news of Hydro-Chêbec and Mersedes Benz partnership rised.

Available now as a battery pack, they're looking for a phone manufacturer to OEM.
In other news, I always knew I'd need a smart phone eventually (cash spreads virii )
Now it looks like the Pine64 is shipping. I'd heard about it a few years back.
