Last commute in to work with the car gave me 54.6 mpg.
I must say, I'm sad to see it go. While its not an exciting car to drive, it is TOTALLY an EcoModder's car. It is the new Metro, but its better IMO. The CVT makes it so stinking easy to get great mileage. Even the average mileage of all the Mirage owners on MirageForum are getting 40+ mpg. And, we all know you can really pull crazy good mileage from the 5 speed too from looking at 3dplane's mileage. His 90 day average right now is 66 mpg! I'd love to try out a 5 speed and have enough time to do some modding to it. Give this car a few years, and then snatch one up for a steal. I'll have my eyes peeled.

The final tally is in. I filled up the tank and just returned the car. 318.5 miles later I filled up on 6.5 gallons of gas for a total of 49 mpg! I'm impressed (not with myself, but the car).

Configurations
DE Manual $12,995
DE CVT $14,095
ES Manual $14,295
ES CVT $15,395
Edit:
they are getting $2,000+ in dealer markup at my local mitsu dealer

not so sorry for bumping an old thread,
I'm looking for a new commuter and am trying to get some info
I'm really curious about how the car does at highway speeds and on hills?
my commute is just under 55miles each way
lots of hills (probably 2,500 feet of elevation)
almost all at highway speeds (60-70mph)
with a bit of sitting in traffic at the end
I'm currently getting about 37mpg out of my 220K mile 1995 Nissan 200SX with a 5sp

Here is my thread on my 2015 Mirage. It's easily fast enough to get in real trouble in Virginia, where 80+ is reckless driving.

I've been watching them, Chicago & Florida dealers are advertising for $9600, in state with our whopoing 3-4 dealer all pushing 15k. Well worth the fly and drive or with my inventory of cars, drive and abandon. If only I could get my 18 yo girl to even try a manual. Cheapest CVT I've seen are just under 12k. One even had an outlander sport for 14k. As much as I like MPG, a OS for only a couple K more is a pretty sweet deal, but not happening in Iowa.

FYI, the Mirage is no joking the easiest-to-drive manual I've ever driven. The clutch is feather light. Switching back to the Metro/Firefly, it felt like driving a truck by comparison.

Also, KrautBurner: there are now a bunch of replies on the Mirage forum, if you haven't seen them yet: Thread Someone wants to know: how's the Mirage on highway hills?

Also: this year there won't be any of the usual end of year clear-out sales, either.
Mitsu (in North America) is gaming the model year system: there is no 2016 model year coming. Instead, early/mid next year (2016) they're introducing a sedan version plus an updated/revised hatchback, but selling them as 2017 models. Meanwhile, dealers will keep selling "2015's".
If you can wait until next year when the revised hatch arrives, there could be some killer deals to move the remaining 2015's.
