So tell us about your setup here: Dashcam setups (cheap). I'd love to hear about a good setup that doesn't involve my phone.

The most recent one for me caused a good bit of damage to the other car! I thought it was hilarious ... though not at the time.

All last summer interstate 81 through the city was down to 1 lane in both directions for paving. It was a cluster@#$.

The on ramps were horrible.

I was sitting in a traffic jammed on ramp that was one lane wide. We inched along and the person behind me kept beeping at me and giving me the finger.

Yes, beeping at the person ahead of you when there are 100 cars ahead and aside of them is going to do a lot.

I kept sicking my hands up like "what do you want me to do?" as I couldn't do anything.

Finally this person had enough and just LAID on the horn for 30 seconds. Then then attempted to pass me on the right.

There wasn't much room but I heard their right side headlight and bumper crack as they hit the guardrail, then the person scraped the drivers side of their vehicle along my passenger mirror and left a nice crease along the entire drivers side. They made it about 50 feet past me and stopped.

At that point I was beeping trying to get their attention to report to the police that they hit my car and to discuss with insurance companies in case there was damage to my car.

When I was trying to do that, someone in a box fan was getting mad because they thought I was yelling at them for not letting me onto the backed up highway. I motioned to the driver and told him that the person just hit my car and the guardrail.

While I was doing that, the person found a break and jumped into traffic.

I drove the Cherokee for the next 2 weeks trying to avoid a confrontation with that person. Probably for 3 or 4 months, every morning I would see the same vehicle with the damage on it. Not sure if they traded or what, but I have not seen it lately.

This is one I posted on another site about an experience when I used to travel for work. When you drive as much as I did then (usually 400 miles a week), you learn to pay attention and anticipate MUCH more than a few seconds out. Saved me with this one.

I was driving on a 4 lane boulevard at 35. The street is strongly patrolled by local police. I had someone behind me who was getting upset with me going the speed limit.

By upset, I mean beeping, flashing and giving me the middle finger.

Generally when someone tailgates I'll speed up 5mph or so before letting them by. I sped up, they still kept tailgating me.

Mind you, this is a 4 lane with NO ONE in the left lane. The person could have easily passed me.

Made a right turn onto a 2 lane with a speed limit of 35. There are no passing zones. I was going the speed limit again when I hear a beep and the person goes to pass.

I figured the person would try to drive into the side of me or do a brake check when by me so as soon as the person was on the side of me I slowed down quick.

It's a good thing I was being defensive ... as soon as the guy got in front of me he STOOD on the brake pedal. As in all 4 tires were locked up solid on his car.

Luckily I was planning on it and almost stopped so nothing bad happened.

If I had a dash cam, I would have been calling the police and giving them the footage and trying to get this person a wreckless driving ticket.

In the UK there is a driving offence described as 'driving without due care and attention' which seems to match.

I don't know if this is normal or extraordinary, but Googling Bay Area road rage yielded several other recent attempted murders. I think we need to be much more concerned about these criminals than we have been.

Attempted murder. Car runs down bicyclist.

Road-rager arraigned for felony reckless driving.

Road-rager stabs motorist with screwdriver, arrested for assault with a deadly weapon.

Seven year sentence for voluntary manslaughter.

You're welcome, Fat Charlie.

Arragonis -- "Wreckless". It's that dry American humour.
