Seems like a lot of work for a questionable result. But I can imagine that any rounding of that edge will help reduce wake.

If you do it, please do at least an A-B test. Probably no going back to A on this one.

BMW saw enough benefit from relieving wheel well pressure to implement a vent (same function as the rolled fender, evacuation of higher-pressure air) on the X5.

Agreed that the front tire to door hinge line is critical.



I think this is a fiberglass Hebmuller, but you can get the same effect by grafting a Superbeetle nose onto the back. Gary Emory did it in the 90s. That would be a good picture to dig up. He did it to a 1952 with an MG-TD windshield!

It’ll be very difficult to get anything resembling a valid A-B test of the fender mod... I figure that if I mod the trailing edge, I’ll do a pair of fenders and swap them on... problem is, it takes about 90 min a side due to the other stuff that needs removed... weather would change a lot in half a day...
