So... does this rough drawing look like it would help? I don't mind putting out the effort but if its doubtful it would help. I have plenty of other thing to take up my time. LOL

The area where the tent sits would be open of course and possibly both side be removable so the tent opens up w/o having to lift tent.

The end of the topper (not sure what to call it) would need to clear the rear gate when open.

Couldn't find the path to overlay to my pic, but it works o.k. visually?

The (poorly done) shape on the van is a spare roof I happen to have from a 68 Volvo wagon. Might cover the posts with towels and throw it on the van for a test fit soon.

Adding a 2nd roof wouldn't gain much. How would you open the tent?

Fitting The Template (with it's half circular cross section) to the tent won't cut it. What you have is a low box on a tiny ground plane. Consider the techniques used on a box van. A quarter-round is sufficient on the front. That break from the horizontal top to the Template line isn't what you want. Consider Mair:

After the straight section, a curve to the 11° angle, then straight. On the sides and top.

Have to study your post. Hasn't sunk in. I appreciate the effort, even though I have no idea what its telling me. LOL (yet)

See, that's what I mean. I can't get a clear mental picture. I'd expect opening to one side or the other.

That's it exactly. I'd thought about finding that exact picture; thanks for making the effort. You can truncate as necessary following Mair.

Thanks for the post! I am seeing a different format and I thought the site was down? Anyway still in thinking mode. Have to make a rack and hopefully be able to carry the tent and kayaks. W/O killing too much power (and fuel economy) Got my hands full but I will report back.

I do think the best option will be hang the kayaks off to the side instead of in front or in back of tent? I will test fit the tent and that will tell me if the idea has merit. At least space wise.

Test fitting.
Not sure this is worth the effort but I am having fun thinking about it.
Kayak will ruin any efforts no doubt.

Just the RTT. Not having to place there. Custom rack a possibility. Open to suggestions
