saab 9-3 2.0 turbo project-help needed please!

in my infinite wisdom whilst looking for a small diesel car, i managed to purchase one Saab

It was very cheap and has plenty mot, not to mention being all the one colour.

So now i can actually start ecomodding as its my car!its a 2001 5dr in silver.

i believe the engine to be circa 150bhp, and ita a 5 speed manual so i can now do proper pulse and glide instead of just avoiding kickdown on the auto.

The handbook claims 22/42/32 uk mpg for town/extra urban and combined.
I'm hoping to see 40mpg uk before starting any aero mods

Does anyone on here have a 9-3? Any imput or suggestions of mods would be much appreciated

I'll try to get pics up soon.

just found out the Cd is 0.3

A lot better than i feared..
Once i post some pics up of the car(or a similar one) i'd be interested to hear what mods you'd advise.
The car will be used daily for commuting (every 2nd week as my new flat allows me to car share so we'll take turn about)

Commute will be 25 miles as follows:
2miles slow speed town driving
4miles 40-60a road
19miles motorway (probably busy, moving at 50-60max)

Any suggestions welcome once the pics are up

Pictures of a simlilar car can be found here (my work PC does not allow uploads)

Saab 9-3 Aero (2001) with pictures and wallpapers

Handily there are views from most angles, so plenty of scope for modifications!

so far i've put the tyres to 34psi, and stuck £68 worth of fuel in..

And discovered a fuel leak(handily remedied buy actually fitting a jubilee(worm drive)clip to the fillerneck/tank joint)

P&G seems easier as the car can be left in 5th for the pulse..the turbo also provides good torque low down-much like a tdi.

Having had a chance to look at the front, there's plenty of scope for grill blocks etc-but i'm unsure whether to block the intercooler inlet..as i fear heatsoak could be a pain.

Even more worryingly, it appears (according to the manual!) that the 185bhp lump gets better mpg uk combined 32.1 vs 31.7

and the 35bhp boost is easy to gain.

Anyone any idea re the intercooler or any other mods?

First tank is in!

I got 468.3 miles to 12.94 UK mpg giving 36.2 UK mpg

This was despite the fuel filler neck leaked out about a gallon due to a bust hoese clip..

it equates to 15.5 US gal and 30.2 US mpg.

the EPA figures have been entered using the 2008 versions off the govt website.

Published UK combined is 31.7UkMPG, so I'm about 14% ahead

second tank in...

508.2 miles to 12.75 UK gallons

that equated to 39.85 MPG UK (or 33.24MPG US)

certainly positive steps...
