I think you're confusing some terms. The sidewall max rating is the number on the tire, usually 44 or 51PSI for passenger tires. The manufacturer recommended pressure is on the door jamb and around 35PSI for cars and small SUVs. Inflating over the manufacturer recommended is generally considered to be safe, inflating past the sidewall max can be asking for trouble.

The thing I liked most was the table I was able to create of mpg vs speed. ScanGauge testing allowed me to make a really good graph so I now know how much it helps to go at certain speeds. And that applies to going faster as well as slower. I know I get better mileage at 40 than 35 in the Jimmy, so if I'm on a road that's posted 35, I know that "cheating" and going 40 will actually have better mpg results.

You are correct, and I stand corrected. I understand the difference but I got the two confused while replying.

Since the OP mentioned that he has them already inflated to the max sidewall pressure and since he is driving a truck, it would be good to heed the maximum load rating as well.
