^ hey thats my Yaris!
I used to have an xB...if i kept it instead of trading it in for the Yaris, I would have swapped the trans out for an Echo unit (Yaris trans case is different then xB/xA/echo) with the taller final drive. Best tank ever was like 39mpg. Now I get at least mid 40s beating the crap out of my Yaris & low-mid 50s when "trying". Gearing & aero definetly makes a hooge difference. Same exact motor.

Is the Yaris lighter too? Interesting but not really surprising. Thanks for posting your real world experience.

Does the Yaris Sedan have a different radiator or is the radiator position than the hatchback? On my Yaris that grill block would direct very little air into the radiator and a lot between the factory belly pan and the transmission/engine. That's because the radiator goes from about middle of the top grill to middle of the bottom, and it's only about 2/3 the width of the grill openings and off center to the driver's side. I've been experimenting with grill blocks in cardboard before I move to coroplast. I'm still not happy with the temps though, with an unblocked grill it used to sit at 185, sometimes going to 186.5 when accelerating and peaking at 190.2 when initially stopped. With my current grill blocks it sits at 186.5/188, going to 190.2/192 when accelerating and sometimes as high as 195 when initially stopped, and it's still cool out but summer is coming and temps will rise.

Sean,
You should probably block off the opening in the "chin" area, between the spoiler and the base of the radiator. Then, all of the air that enters the (partially blocked) grill will go through the radiator. This will helps the temps stay below the 204F when the fan comes on, and you can get by with a small opening - mine is about 4.5" x 15" in the lower opening only. The entire upper grill is blocked, and my temps are fine.

My dream to beat Neil's FE records shattered on 6/17 when I had an accident on I-35 and my beloved Scion xA was totalled.
It was the most fun car I ever enjoyed. sob!
Neil, take care of your Scion and drive safely.

Neil, I remembered the scissor tape you had applied on your A pillars when i saw these scissor shaped sections on the Rafale jet fighter.
Did you ever notice a difference with the tape ?
Ex : Did raindrops behave differently on the side glass
