They go though the trouble of putting a huge window sticker on the car, only to spell it wrong. "VTEC"

I would think this is more of a Honda vs Ford thing, or a Japanese vs Domestic thing, or a VTEC vs turbo thing, than a power vs economy thing. After all, the Civic Si still gets pretty good fuel economy compared to the average car.

28 highway for an 04 SI, geez I could do that in my old Riviera, and try to keep from falling asleep .
If Honda made a simple ISDI engine two door with manual everything and a tall geared 6 speed, say 2k revs at 60 or better.
regards
Mech

Except that Ford brands it as a "economy AND power" thing. I just couldn't help but think that some people probably snicker at the "eco" part of "ecoboost".
I suppose if I'd spotted something like this it probably would have been funnier...

This seems to have been quoted eighty-two times, but this is the oldest one that shows up:
Quote:
VTEC is NOT "V-tec", "V-TEC", "V-tech", "V-TECH", "VTECH", "V-TEK", "vtech", "vtec", "vortech", "Vtec", or "Vtech". It's CAPITAL VTEC. No dashes, no lower case, no extra letters, no anything other than the correct and only spelling of VTEC. If you cannot respect the technology and simply use the correct spelling, you do not deserve what it gives you.

I remember a rant a very long time ago about people putting VTEC (or some variation thereof) decals on their cars, as well as "Type R" and "Spyder"
I doubt that anyone has ever installed one of these in their cars:
Or a cheap cordless phone, although it would be easier than an engine swap.
Spyder is interesting. "So, you are saying that this car is a convertible?"

The VTEC vs. turbo thing seems to be the case. Many ricers with their K24 (often stroked to 2.6L or 2.7L) engines claim to get around 400hp without forced induction...

Regardless of marketing, VTEC really only exists for fuel economy.
The same peak power can be made by just using the high cam profile at all times, rather than just at certain RPMs. VTEC simply allows an economical cam profile at low RPMs and high profile at high RPMs
The ricer kids don't like it when you point that out though...
