Signed up with a 100% renewable electricity utility

"Bullfrog Power" - Heard about it from one of the EV association members in Ottawa.

It's a relatively new company (06 was their first full year in operation).

The power is about $30 / month more expensive than the current bill, but it's 100% clean, renewable energy - 20% wind & 80% "low impact" hydro.

Ontario already has a somewhat clean energy supply (63% of the mix produces no GHG), but this makes it even better:

That means charging the ForkenSwift will be 100% emissions-free.

(At least when I'm taking the juice from my plug. The weeks when Ivan has custody, I guess he'll be using the regular provincial grid mix for his driving).

That's a pretty convincing reason to switch. Heck, if I bet I could save money if I had an EV even if I was using one of those suppliers ($0.025 more / kW at 100%, or $0.0125 at a 50% mix), and that's before any tax deductions:

Just discovered 2 interesting tidbits:

1) the owner of the small Ontario wind farm that provides the 20% wind portion of the power mix for Bullfrog Power drives a Honda Insight;

2) and he keeps quite an interesting blog that documents the performance of his 3-turbine installation & issues related to wind & energy issues: http://www.biofuels.coop/windblog/

I've heard about them through the Tragically Hip - Gord Downie's a big proponent of theirs.

I am on renewable energy now too. Over the grid green power - mine is almost half biogas, 30% wind, and then some hydro and solar.

I think if you have an electric vehicle, the best way to go is charge it with renewable electricity.

It also shuts up the people who say you are still polluting just as much, except now it's coming from a coal plant. (which it still pollutes less, mostly due to economies of scale)
