Actually, I DID! I had forgotten about that!

Just for ****s and giggles to get a reaction out of my 87 y/o Mom, I went around a bend much, much faster than what I do normally. So fast that the G-force slammed her shoulder against her passenger door. So fast that even I was beginning to doubt the wisdom of what I was doing.

At that moment, a normal person would be yell a protest or, at least, bracing themselves. But my 87y/o Mom, who moves at the speed of a little old lady, calmly sat through the turn like she was part of the astronaut training program and going for her daily NASA centrifuge ride.

After we came out of the turn and the car was back to "level flight", without looking at me, she calmly said, "You shouldn't go so fast."

Most of the time my car has me or me + junior or me + Mrs in it. I try to drive smooth but both know I like to hypermile.

If I have other passengers then I drive smoother than a limo driver carrying the Queen, and begorrah the FE.

It is much easier to do that in my manual Passat than in our previous 2011 Prius. But that might be down to the rather naff suspension the Prius had.

I once EOC'd during an economy run (during which "tricks" were prohibited) with a camera car rolling right beside me.

Just smile and wave, boys. Smile and wave.

Why do you have to be so negative all the time? Why can't you offer some... constructive criticism?

Still plenty of room for hypermiling there. You'll bring your average down, but the numbers should still be unbelievable to someone not in the know.

Nah, unless you consider wife hacked. She likes to gripe but she likes to drive even less. Yesterday she griped about me shortening her tram ride when we went to Bush gardens and walked 2 miles. We got in at Germany and left at the same stop. She though it would be a longer ride if we got on one stop later and got off at that stop.

Remember she is complaining about getting on one stop earlier and leaving from the same exact spot, versus getting on one stop later and getting off at that same spot.

I said, regardless of when you got on or off you went exactly the same distance. End of that discussion. I can not for the life of me think of a more pitiful thing about which to complain.

Someone once suggested that "even during the Golden Years, some must have complained about the yellow quality of the light."

I don't take hypermiling to any extremes. I don't P&G, EOC, or DWL. And I NEVER draft. I just "Drive Without Brakes" and occasionally engine-on coast when the grade is right. I also use cruise control extensively. My Mom told me a couple of years ago that she's much more comfortable riding with me than she is riding with my sister because I'm not speeding and tailgating other vehicles the way my sister does.

And I get better fuel economy from my 4.0 liter Mustang than my sister gets from her 1.6 liter turbocharged MINI Countryman.
