It gets better yet for EV'ers thinking about participating in this event. Jeff just told me that there is now a charging station right next door to the Ultramar Station [Boulevard Celine-Dion, Charlemagne, QC J5Z 3L6 gps: 45.720396,-73.48999 ] where the event starts and ends! The 240V charging station is located in the St-Hubert Rotisserie Restaurant [where we go to eat after the event.] Address: 99 Rue Émile-Despins, Charlemagne, QC J5Z 3S8, Canada.

I learned that you will need an Electric Circuit card to use the charging station. Cost is $2.50 per charge. Has anyone seen this charging station in person? Is it for one car or more please? Perhaps Francis or HyperMileQC knows?

Also, I mentioned to Jeff that most EV's won't be able to make the 118 miles of this mountainous event. Jeff said if a few EV's expressed interest in participating that he would consider creating a shortcut route for them that would amount to a much more manageable 120km, or 74.5 miles.

I might be available as a navigator

I have never been to one of these events and no nothing about navigating but I would like to see all the vehicles and will be a couple of hours away. The only assets I can offer are, I speak fluent french, pretty good at reading maps and have a good bladder. not commiting but serously thinking about it.

I don't know if this can help you, but I spotted this Battery Charging Station in Saint-Jérôme last week.

This one seems to be a 120V only, but I also spotted 2 120V & 240V Battery Charging Station at Sainte-Thérèse Train Station(I will try to get you a picture this week). These Charging Stations have only one plug each.

That's great to know because there is surely someone who would like to praticipate and may not have anyone to ride along with them.

Exclamation Official Announcement

The official 2013 flyer is up here!

Quick highlights for 2013:
  • there's now a charging station at the rally start!!!
  • I will attempt to make a shortcut for the electric cars to bring the distance closer to ~120km
  • if you're coming from out of town, someone will find you some couch/therm-a-rest to crash on
  • this coincides, as usual, with F1 weekend, so feel free to make a weekend out of it. I will happily take people out on the town Friday and Saturday night
  • update on route conditions and the shortcut by early-mid May

Instructions are fully bilingual and anyone can easily follow them (no experience required). The route is selected to make hypermiling challenging, not for optimal results. The top results have always been achieved by a combination of technique and vehicle efficiency. The results from previous years say a lot about that. We measure improvement over EPA too, so that's a category someone could win even in a Hummer...

Looking forward to seeing many of you again and many for the first time!

Jeff

I'm out this year. I'm going to miss everyone. Hope to make it to other events to catch up. Maybe at next years I can get "Most Improved".

Sorry to hear that Ken. You're going to miss the excellent Libayan food in Old Montreal.

Question for Jeff please. [Allow me to preface my question with a message: I don't want to make figuring results any more complicated for you.]

If I were to show up in a Chevy Volt, what class could I be in and how might I be scored? They can go 40 or so miles on the battery and then the gas engine starts after that.

Even if I couldn't be scored I would go anyway just to participate in an EV of some type.
