So, I'm officially a northerner now . . .

We moved to Sumter SC last weekend, just southeast of Shaw AFB. So maybe not technically a "northerner" to some of you guys, but considering I've lived most of my life in central Florida anybody north of Valdosta Georgia falls into that category to me.

Now I'll have to see how the Maverick Hybrid does in a real winter (again - not to some of you guys). Commute is about 45 minutes each way to just northwest of Camden, but I'll work mostly remotely from home so I won't rack up a ton of miles after the plant gets up and running and I'm back working out of the house.

Guess I need to start keeping up with the fuel log which I noticed I only put one fill in so far!

I'm not using the last couple tanks for sure - my son drove Silver up from Florida behind us with the 5x10 lawn trailer loaded down with more in the bed and in the rear and passenger seats (I towed a 6x12 Uhaul trailer behind the Princess Carriage). He said it drove really well, but averaged less than 20 mpg loaded down like that at 80 mph

I don't think you will want to use that term around Sumter.

I live close by and the terms "Northerner" and "Yankee" are synonymous with "Bad Person".

Say you are from Florida. That's considered a good thing!

Oh and if you don't already, be sure to use "Well, Bless their heart" when you talk about Northerners. It's a sign you are one of "US" and not one of "THEM."

Congrats on the move! I completely understand that sentiment. I grew up under the impression that anyone north of Valdosta was some kind of masochist, dealing with those brutal winters.

After a week here in Sumter I can already say without a doubt people up here are way more polite and friendly than they are in central Florida even if they all do sound like they're from Mayberry RFD

In traffic I'm shocked at the number of turn signals I see being used, and by people letting other cars merge and pass without being jackasses about it, nobody rides anybody's bumper, etc . . . it's been a great experience driving in this area so far!

At stores the workers and even customers are all helpful and polite, my new neighbors all wave and say hi, it's all going to take some getting used to while I de-program Florida out of my system

And my Maverick gets over 40 mpg in this area even with my commute to Camden! I think the truck even likes it here
