Fingie: what's the average distance driven / year?
In Canada it's 20k km / 12k miles per year.
There's one guy running a commercial fleet of 2015 Mirages in western Canada who has already passed 250,000 km with one of them. That's a bit above average.

about 21,000km on average, and 11years is the average lifespan.
But we have a average tax of about 28% on the new price of our cars, so we finns cling onto them.

Low low prices! I had to remind myself that these cars could be bought less than 10K brand new. Also, 80K miles is high mileage? Sure, on a yearly basis. I would rather buy a car that quickly racked up miles than one that did it slowly! More likely to have been long highway trips and less heat cycles/startups.

Yup, that's what I meant.
One concern of buying a newer car like the Mirage with unusually high miles is the possibility that it was a commercial delivery vehicle. Not gentle miles.

Fifty in third gear is absurd! What did people comment? CVTs sound great, but it bothered people that they never seemed to shift, so they are not really CVTs anymore?

I recall mentioning Steve Lang (Curbside Classics, Truth About Cars, now has a new website) said he found one or two at auction at $4k already.
Good news for cheapskates everywhere.

He still does articles for mainstream sites and motoring sites, and still does the Long Term Quality Index, but The Drive is where he puts most of his personal writing now.
Don't know if he does blog, but if you follow him on FB, it's basically the same thing.
