What are the best places to look for aero improvements on the rear of a staion wagon? Are they too blunt to be very efficient?
Cool wagon Nitro. It's ironic to me that you get the lowered GT style Subaru and here in the states we get a jacked up wagon named after the Australian Outback.
The power needed to push an object through a fluid increases as the cube of the velocity. Mechanical friction increases as the square, so increasing speed requires progressively more power.
As Winkosmosis mentioned, I think the most bang for the buck will be a Kammback roof extension. Add to that rear wheel skirts and a belly pan and you are set!
In my case, the roof extension and rear wheel skirts reduced fuel consumption by 7% at 70km/h and 8% at 100km/h.

What matters is where you're going, not how fast.

We get the outback here too. Not sure what the point of it is. Looks to be the same as the liberty/legacy, but not enough ground clearance to be usable as a full on off roader.
old thread I know but i was wondering if the old 97 round nose taurus wagon was any good aero wise, seemed pretty slick to me if roof rack removed etc,
Nitro, did you ever try anything? I have a Forester and I do not plan on trying much, hoping to replace it with a manual 2wd car. The general consensus here is that the AWD will partially negate every ecomodding effort that I make.
