Don't care. Odds are against it and for over 4 decades the odds have been right.

That's a pretty asinine statement, why take a chance when it comes to you're kids safety? I'll get you some info, when the carseat nazi wakes up LOL.

Ok, ask and ye shall receive. Number 1 source of this info......your car seat instruction manual. However here are some links, take from it what you wish.

Still don't care. Made it through several of those decades unscathed with no car seat, no seat belt, no air bag, no helmet, no ABS, etc.

The links you have offered are not actual proof of the contention. These sources are all based upon opinion. You can believe them if you like, but that doesn't make them factual. These articles are all based upon someone's opinion, meant to sound authoritative and to persuade anyone who reads them, in the same way a newspaper editorial attempts to persuade those who read it.

Some of us don't believe everything we read as being factual. Just because someone's opinion is broadcast in the print media or on a computer screen doesn't make it so.

Speaking of asinine, that sounds suspiciously like Cheney's 1% doctrine.

You can get killed crossing the street. Reducing, even minimizing risk is great. Trying to eliminate it is a waste of time.

Let's not have another pointless argument based on different perceptions of safety. Please? Thanks.

That was going to be my suggestion.

If cabin comfort is your goal, the block heater isn't going to change that very much. But an electric cabin heater will. Yes, the cabin starts to cool once you unplug and drive away (no idling), but the coolant is warming quickly as the cabin is cooling and they meet in the middle before it ever becomes uncomfortable.

Personally I like the strategy of wearing light clothing to drive, with heavier brought along just in case. Heating the coolant & the cabin (a hair dryer on 750w setting for 20 mins) works for me.

Sounds silly, but I drive more efficiently when I'm warm & comfy. When I'm cold, I must subconsciously want to burn more fuel to get the heat going.

You're right, no need to argue....people either follow instructions in manuals or they don't.

MetroMPG, curious how are you warming the coolant with a hair dryer. I get how you're warming the cab, just not the coolant. I have to agree, I'm able to drive more efficiently when I'm comfortable.

The hair dryer only warms the cabin. 800w inline coolant heater warms the coolant at the same time.

I want to have my cake and eat it too, so block heater is ~800 W and cabin heater around 300-400 W. Coolant is mostly 80-100 F right from the start.
