Or you could keep the capacitors and use the smaller one. It does start like regular on a super freezing day but doesn't like being left for more than a week without being used
N.b the heating system, most electronics, clock and alarm were removed

I took a peek at the latest offerings as I do every couple years and am very disappointed. Not only have prices not decreased over time, but many products are discontinued. Maxwell has nothing between 600F and 3000F, so those 1,500 farad caps that seemed to be a sweet spot for car starting applications is no more.
I still have no idea what Tesla did, or intended to do with Maxwell.
On a related note, I somehow drained my LiFePO4 7.4Ah battery in the Acura overnight, and the next morning my wife wasn't able to start the car (it was nearly flat dead). I jumped the car to get it going, and on her way to work one of the cells blew. Learned that massively exceeding the charge rating does not end well.
All of that could have been avoided if only I had 2 batteries available. They cost ~$20 in parts, so having multiple is nothing. Then I could swap in a standby unit, and gently charge the dead pack.
Stranding my wife with my experiment probably ever so slightly motivated me to purchase a new vehicle, even though that's irrational.

Buying a new vehicle follows the conservation of brokenness law.

While I haven't looked into it much at all I have noted a great many "Roll your own SuperCap" videos on YouTube etc.
YouTube being YouTube; a lot of them are likely complete baloney, but most do carry on about getting a high surface area by using/applying Graphite or Graphene or even Activated Charcoal.
Activated Charcoal is just charcoal that has been heated red hot, which is how its made in the 1st place.
ie: Adding the word 'activated' just seems like a way to make people think they have to buy what is in fact plain old charcoal..?
Some seem to be flat packs that are sealed with a laminating machine, while others are rolled and stuffed into pill bottles and such.
The flat ones (if true) would make placing them next to a battery (packaging) convenient.
Might be worth researching more..?

Research I just did indicated that cooking charcoal to activate it, in a summary, makes the particles smaller (DUH) which increases the surface area related to the particle core. You're correct that it is plain old charcoal
Has the meaning of supercap changed? Back a bit, it meant huge amounts of additional capacitance in a smaller package although at a teeny breakover voltage. Good only for filtering or storage.

Charcoal:
yep. Thx for the confirmation.
I seam to recall something about charcoal made from Bamboo being better due to the fiber structure when still alive. Maybe it forms nano-tube-ish type structures or something. Might be worth researching.
Supercap:
I think it has: Way more energy density rather than just power density.
Then theres a whole lot of 'All in one' combo supercap + battery stuff going on.
For me flywheel energy storage is extremely interesting in that it can do 2 things:
Balance an enclosed bike with a total disregard for crosswinds etc
and
Act as energy storage.
ie:
Rev the flywheels up more when coming to a halt and use that juice to pull away again.
+ a small genset for cruise and you're golden.

Does the gyroscope set low for a low center of gravity, or high to give it more leverage?
What's the orientation of the axis of rotation? Upright or lateral?
