Hi all,

Ive been following your workspace thread with great admiration after struggling to get MPGuino to work correctly on an Mega2560 board for a few weeks that was until I found fyur workspace thread and that has helped me a lot and now ive been using your build as opposed to the original 0.86.

First off, thank you very much for the effort you have put into the project, and the ongoing support you've been suppling others, as well as the other people on here that have contributed to the great project.

I have been playing around with the code a little bit trying to get the features I wanted in the code. However Ive become stuck trying to create a BigNumber display for Distance To Empty as opposed to Time To Empty, as I find it to be a more useful display and wanted it as a Big Number display (as the fuel econ, current, instantaneous, tank. is)

If you could provide me a with a location within the code that I can edit that, then that would be much appreciated.

Again, Thank you and all other contributors to the workspace!

-Matt

Hello,

First of all, thanks for your kind words! It's been a lot of fun doing these modifications, and the end result is much improved and professional-looking. I've got some great people here, too, willing to test and provide feedback and ideas (yah, I know, Ardent - I will get your A-B-A test thingy incorpororated one of these days - same with the RTC).

Secondly, the code is much more robust, but it is also a bit harder to understand for a layperson - it comes of optimizing for running on a small processor, instead of optimizing for human readability. Fortunately, I have had the idea to add large number DTE displays, and I may be able to squeeze that in this weekend.

Yeah I noticed how compact the code was, I've only been playing around with code for about a year, I'm still trying to wrap my head around yours

I appreciate your dedication, and look forward to the results!

I received the boards, and the prototype works perfectly
Now it has USBasp integrated, and it works.

But now i have one questions:
-How to save the system time once i have set it? If i press left+right it says "time NOT set".
-And is there any usage for 5-position switch yet?

Here's my new board

That's a nice looking board!

To save the system time once you set it, press and hold the center button. I tried to make that common across all of the options that require setting values. Press the center button to change the value, and press and hold the center button to set the changed value.

The 5-position switch is partially supported; however, I have yet to document it. The 5-position switch is not really compatible with the traditional 3-button setup, either.

I have some time coming up for rest and relaxation - I'll probably do some more real work with the MPGuino code here.

I missed seeing that 'till now.

It's not a rush. I certainly know how time can get scarce.

Good news.
This latest version so far not sensed any error, which is optimal.
More great work, the t vago master.

Thank you

I would suggest that pressing 5-position switch up+middle would bring up the menu. It says "BTN 10 pressed".
And similar for other directions.

But i dont know if that works for all 5-position buttons. Atleast for my button it does.

middle +
up = 10
left = 12
down = 24
right = 9

I think all the 5-position switches work this way. I also very much like that idea about bringing up the menu in this fashion.

If it was up to me, it would be like:

left+middle(hold) = reset tank
right+middle(hold) = reset current
up+middle = toggle menu
down+middle = dont know yet.

And for up/down/left/right, the screens could be a big table that you can browse.
And while switching pages screen, below it, would be a "map" indicating where you would be on the table. Like on the picture on attachment.

But some localization suggestions:
The kilometer per hour "kph" would be much more comfortable to new users if it was "k/h", same style like "l/100".
BIG tank/current/instant: L/K should be l/100km in small chars. Or if there is no more special chars available, "L100" is good. People think in their minds "litres and hundred", and figure it out right away.

Hoping it helps

EDIT: I got my boards built. See link on my signature
