It depends on the poster. I'm engine off at most opportunities - at lights & low speed P&G. But not during most high speed P&G.

Open loop is enriched operation, when the ECU isn't on its fuel map. Cold engines run open loop. When the engine warms up, modern engines go into closed (more efficient) loop. You need an Ultragauge or Scangauge to know which mode your engine is in.

I always thought that P&G was pulse and glide with the engine on, and any time you turned the engine off it is EOC engine off coasting. I guess I have been wrong for a long time, I wonder how much misinformation I wrote over the past years. PNG is probably just a typo, maybe my mistake but I think I have seen it before in others writing.

My thinking has been:

P&G - pulsing and gliding, engine can be on or off

EOnC - Engine on coasting, term generally used when coasting up to a red light or a reduced speed limit etc with engine on.

EOC - Engine off coasting, same EOnC with the engine off.

As I see it, P&G is a combination of techniques, whether you use EOC or EOnC as part of it doesn't really change the idea behind it, engine off just gives better results.
I've never assumed engine on or off, as many people aren't comfortable driving with the engine off (myself included) or can't because they have an automatic transmission.

We can't even assume anything about the assumptions. My head hurts.

i like your on off system.simple and easy to use.

p&g can be either on or off as long as the wheels are not being driven by the engine during the glide phase?

P&G - used between lights and stop signs when ur going to have to stop again(Engine off)

PNG - same as P&G but going into neutral(Engine on)

EOC - used for coasting down hills for extended periods of time or roads with enough slope(Engine off!!!)(Engine OFF coast)
