I've seen a pair of headlights coming straight for me, on my side of the road - and had to force myself out of fear freeze to steer off the road into the grass to miss the car.
I stayed upright, but it took a while before I got going again...
That was one of my early motor adventures. It still haunts me at times.

I've given up riding as well due to family concerns. It isn't so much if I die in a crash, it's if I don't and become a burden.
Friend of a friend dropped his Harley of the shoulder, paralyzed, I wouldn't want to do that to my wife, kids, or myself for the little pleasure it brings, I can find something else to do.

My cousin (17) rode his BSA 650 into the passenger side of a woman who was late to work, making a left turn on Hwy 101.
Never had a murdercycle, but I (badly) want an Arcimoto FUV for it's full roll cage and 4-point belts.
Turns out Tulsi is a Bernie Bro. Joe want her for Vice President.

I would like to get a motor cycle but people still try to run me off the road in my diesel suburban. Diving a leaf is about as risky as I want to go.

Motorcycle riding has made me a safer overall driver. My attention is better, and I'm looking for threats much more carefully. Riding a motorcycle can be relatively safe if you're willing to give the effort to be cautious. Then again, the consequences of everything is worse on a motorcycle.
Probably the closest to dying in a vehicle I've had was when I almost sent my Dodge/Cummins truck off a snowy cliff. 2nd would probably be laying my bike down near a cliff that went into the Breitenbush river.

When I was riding, I made my harley look like a sheriff bike. People saw me better, including the ones who wanted to harm sheriffs. You still get idiots, but with monster crash bars and a bike that weighed almost as much as a vw bug, the times I had accidents, I wasn't hurt beyond mild case of road rash.
