I have not seen Joe Rogan before - he was passable as a foil for Elon Musk; more so at the beginning. Joe mentioned he recently talked with Neil de Grasse Tyson - now if Dr Tyson could talk to Elon Musk, THAT would be totally fascinating discussion.

Interesting guy. Comedian, sports commentator, now long-form podcaster since 2009.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Rogan
https://www.joerogan.com

He's had everybody from Steven Pinker to obscure comedians. I can't find an interview with Styxhexenhammer. That's the one I'd like to see.

I'll add martial arts and fighting professional, actor, and TV game show host to the list of titles Rogan has held.

I wonder if all/most medications should be over the counter.

My wife saw a patient the other day who had x issue, and said she was traveling to watch the Seahawks that weekend for her birthday and needed an opiate prescription.

Turned out the woman's birthday had gone by 3 weeks prior, and the Seahawks weren't playing for 2 weeks. When my wife said that she wouldn't be prescribing opiates, the woman immediately got up and left without saying a word.

She has Oregon Health Plan, so the visit to obtain drugs was entirely free to the woman, and entirely a waste of taxpayer money for everyone legally employed.

If the drugs had been OTC, nobody's time would be wasted.

That said, any time a hurdle to bad decisions is in place, it reduces the number of bad choices people make. Maybe we'd have 3x the number of opiate abusers if they were OTC.

I'm very sympathetic towards liberty, but can't say that's always the right move. People make horrible decisions, and those decisions while often not directly affecting others, always indirectly affect others.

Perhaps there needs to be basic competency tests for many things, and after someone passes the very elementary test, they are free to make their own decisions and assume liability for their actions. (I'm thinking of the right to purchase firearms, too).

People do need to assume greater responsibility in their own lives, and that includes finances, health, and education. Who should care more about those things for each person more than the individuals themselves?

It's not the states job to ensure I have those things; it's mine. If the state assumes responsibility for those things, then they also have authority over my actions. There is no getting around the fact that responsibility and authority are inextricably linked.

My signature is a reflection of my personality. I'd rather die free than to have my actions so restricted as to be "safe". I realize I'm way more tolerant of risk than most, and others might not value freedom as highly to risk unsafety.

Risk has many sides.
Death is inevitable at long last, but long and needless suffering is what I seek to avoid.

Then there's responsibility.
I've been a biker for almost 20 years but given up because of risk - If I die or get physically unable to work my family would suffer greatly.

I got struck by a rogue hubcap on the highway; the blow at shoulder height was enormous.
I looked at the broken windshield and thought myself lucky for not being on my bike right there and then. Sold it 2 weeks later.

I had a fist-sized rock from the duals on a dump truck take the rear view mirror right off my 1957 Beetle.

He and Doug Stanhope couldn't save The Man Show. I miss Girls on Trampolines.

I employed the word 'denounce' to counter the prevailing press. The last article I read before checking back in to Ecomodder: John Stuart Mill vs. Political Correctness and Censorship

I probably should think about this more before I share... but I had my first child 3 months ago, and recently decided I need to get my motorcycle back on the road and want to do some weekend sort of trips a couple times per year.

I'm many times more likely to die riding my motorcycle than traveling in a car, and I've had plenty of wrecks and close calls already. That said, nobody is completely dependent on me to make it through this world. Heck, my wife's 2nd husband could be way better for her than me. She already has a 6-figure income herself, so she doesn't need my financial support. Even if she had a lower paying job, she and the baby would do just fine. We've both got strong family and friend relationships to help us along.

That's not to say I'm indifferent to dying, only that my ego isn't so huge as to delude myself into thinking I'm a crucial member of humanity. The date and time of my death was written from the beginning. I'll risk a reasonable (to me) amount of death, injury, or financial ruin to gain life, health, and financial gain.

My grandmother cooped herself up in her house, eating all organic, pesticide free, whole, etc foods, drank only filtered water, had 8 air cleaners in the house, used humidifiers/dehumidifiers, supplemented with vitamins and minerals, etc, etc. She died suddenly when I was 14 of a brain aneurysm.

Perhaps I'll die in a motorcycle crash, or lose my money in a bad investment. Odds are I'll die of cardiovascular disease or cancer, with plenty of money to get me through life.

A lot of people have been in that chair. Wow — JRE #1170 is with my favorite Hindu female politician veteran war zone medic, Tulsi Gabbard.

She's hewing to the line on the Hawaii missile alert. It will be interesting to see what he can draw out of her.
