It's not a perfect vacuum. Some stray dust particles in there get stirred around by the cell phone signals, causing a little extra confusion.

I'd think a bus qualifies as a big vehicle ?
The best bus driver I've ever come across happened to be a woman.
I don't think I ever drove along with anyone who drove so smooth.

All about safe speed - positioning - looking ahead and around, reading the road.

It's unfortunate that people in gargantuan pickups sometimes lack big-picture thinking skills, and more unfortunate still that people like this are allowed to drive on our roads.

I think that's the mentality, if you aren't glued to the car in front, you are going too slow. This morning was that kind of day for some reason. I try to drive at a more or less "constant" speed too, letting the gap in front grow and shrink because of the bandwidth difference in the mob control system and mine, and no less than 4 drivers drove around me just like you described. Baffling.

I've said it before and it didn't end up in a car wreck.
And, For this one time if the people did not speed they wouldn't have been much farther behind:
About six miles away from home I was going 45ish; That was the speed limit there. Then a couple in a red corvette whizzed by where they could do so safely (Thanks for that, People) and roughly 2.3 miles later I caught up to them after not speeding, At the first red light, With one car between us.

I get the tailgaters all the time, I just slow down for them . Only exception is when I'm going though the ~4 mine strech of city roads for my drive to/from work, I have to speed to make the lights (40 in a 35 and 45 in a 40), really stupid timing, if you drive the speed limit or slightly slower you always hit them red, I'd have to drive atleast 5mph under the speed limit to get to them as they turn green. Funny thing is, people drive 45-55mph though there all the time, after they pass me, they have to stop for the light, which makes me have to slow down for them to take off from a dead stop .

I had to drive someone 100 miles to hospital after they got a phone call to say a donor organ had become available and could they get there ASAP? I have never before or since driven at such sustained high speed (with due regard for safety). Since then I assume that someone wanting to overtake in a tearing hurry must have a good reason to do so.

If I see someone fly up behind me doing 100mph with their flashers on blowing their horn, I'll get out of the way .
I see the same people every day behind me doing the same things. Seems you just can't change who people are.

Good point. I think it might help to have a sticker ready to tape on the back in such an emergency and to notify the local law enforcement, Would that help?

Being pulled over might be a good thing actually, if the cop has any sense, either he could personally drive the person (since they have the high speed training etc), or he could lead the way for you and alert the local hospital to be prepared. If you are 100 miles away, maybe a helicopter could meet you some where and they don't have to deal with traffic and I'm pretty sure they can travel over 100mph (depends on which model I guess).
