You will have to change your nick, or repaint your new car

Looks like I don't have the same definition of "rust free" as the person selling the car I went to look at tonight. It had freshly been painted...

Poked a finger through a rocker panel, not good.

I dug a bit found replacement part numbers for the rocker panels and floor pan for my car. Maybe that could be a good opportunity to learn how to weld...The problem is that's the kind of project I would need a garage for, and an other car I can drive in the meantime, both of which I don't have.

Bummer!

On a good note: your story encouraged me to get professional rust protection for my car. I had it done today.

I left it too late in the year to do myself (too cold to be crawling around underneath it).

I just got my new used car!

It's a green 2000 Jetta TDI with 200k miles flush on the odo. It's got a new head, new timing belt, new turbo and new fuel pump. The floor is pristine so I've got a good base to start building on. Now the bad are a cracked windshield, peeling paint on the fenders and rockers and a cracked rear bumper. The paint and bumper I'll do myself and the repairs wont cost much.

I paid $3500 CAD.
