You have a very good eye !

They were great, while they were on the ECHO. Haven't done any serious monitoring, but the FE slightly increased after putting them on.They're quite light compared to my currently installed steel rims (Winter season).

I actually restored them. Bought the set for $50. Here's a link if you want to see before/after pictures.

Yes it should be fine. Mine is right up on it and has had zero issues.

i might have to take off my lower block (or cut holes)

i have a 4 mile one-way commute and if the weather is warm or theres traffic

temp goes over 200F

(the highest it hit was 215F going up my hill for 10 sec)

temp is fine if weather is cool and i catch all the lights

im interested if anyone has any input

Have you blocked the upper grille too ?

From what I witnessed on the Echo, most of the cooling is done via the lower grille. Since you live in a warm and mountainous region, it is not the ideal thing. As you said, creating an opening on the lower grille block will allow for better cooling.

I had the same problem when I completely blocked the lower grille earlier this Winter. Had to clear at least one of the 3 holes on the lower grille to maintain a constant 186-190F.

You might have to clear a larger area for proper cooling. I believe the upper grille block would be a better alternative in your case.

Update:

took a longer drive than usual and hit 200F going TO my destination

removed the block, returned home and still hit 195F going up my hill!

Guess that means if you live in Hawaii, dont put a lower grill block on your Echo.
(its just too warm here)

Next:

Upper grill block
