Could it be that cooling is less efficient when going up a hill, due to gravity ? Ideally, the water pump should be able to easily pump the coolant through the radiator, but on a hill, it might be pumping less for the same amount of pumping work.

Just a thought.

Definitely give the upper grille block a try.

with the block
the temp actually hovers around 200,
then spikes to 210 going uphill and finally 215 at the very end

ive found temp to increase ONLY if the accelerator is pressed

(if im coasting, temp isnt a big problem)

Wow, how steep is that hill ? Must be fun to drive on a mountain side though.

its at least a mile uphill (pretty straight driving)

starts at low incline, then goes steeper for a few hundred feet near the end


one day, i should probably get a picture or at least measure the incline





there are small hills and mountains everywhere in Hawaii
(notice the houses in the background)
