Hopping berms is almost impossible then, too.
What's infuriating is when you're stuck closing a road until the engineers clear the IED, and within 10 minutes the small dirt road paralleling the highway has 5 cars abreast and every one of them thinks he'll be the one guy to talk you into letting him go through. "Bomb, yes, very dangerous. I go through, please?"

We were required to share the road in Afghanistan, so we always had ancient Corollas full of people passing us. At least you would not think those would have bombs.
Probably.
Our escort liked to drive as fast as they could, often slightly faster than our trucks could manage and then we would have cars and semis passing us on the shoulder.
Did they put loads several feet high on top of semi trailers in Iraq? Would you have people on top of several feet of stuff on top of semis?
I guess that you need to be fearless there to drive at all.
My sister's driving stopped bothering me after deployment.
Sorry for the thread hijack!

The guy can drive, I'll give him that. But he's a menace. A crazy guy on a clock tower with a high powered rifle might be a "good shot", but is that really how you'd want him to demonstrate it?

When you're occupying a place, you have a little more leeway than when you're there under treaty at the request of the local government.
Nobody was allowed to drive crazier than my gunner felt comfortable with.

Well, I guess that neither Iraq nor Afghanistan were as dangerous as the highway in "The Matrix."
Trinity: You always told me to stay off the freeway.
Morpheus: Yes, that's true.
Trinity: You said it was suicide.
Morpheus: Then let us hope that I was wrong.

Dang, I'd say your guy with the .50 would be a pretty good deterrent against crazy guys in BMW M5s. Like my old man used to say "I had the right of way, but he had the truck" lol. After watching that M5 video a few times, I noticed something. Neither of those guys had their seatbelts on! And if they had racing harnesses on, you'd be able to see the shoulder belts coming through the gaps in the back of the racing seats, so they aren't wearing those either. Man there is crazy, and then there is just plain stupid!
Edit: Actually maybe they were wearing them. On a few of the exterior shots it looks like there might be a shoulder belt there. The other thing I thought was a giveaway is the red warning light you can see on the dashboard when they show a close up of the steering wheel, but the guy also never puts the parking brake handle all the way down so it's easier to grab, and that would set off a red dash light as well.
