Awesome surprise Ken!

Oh yes, we've got five of us coming out so far, for one last record setting attempt before it gets too cold out. I'll send you the route instructions for the 121 mile course through the southern Adirondack mountains of NY.

Mike

Although the weather has cooled 30 or so degrees since the last event, a few of us are going out one more time this year and trying for new personal bests. [My personal best was actually done with my Datsun B210 @ 77.04 mpg in 2009].

I am making no changes to my SE-R for Saturday, except for removing all of the E10 gasoline from it and switching to ethanol free gasoline. Although it used to be sold in three different stations here in the capital district of NY, suddenly there are none. I had the presence of mind to bring gas cans with me last month when I went to Watkins Glen for the Vintage GP Festival. There is an ethanol free station in Montour Falls, NY, just outside of Watkins Glen. I bought 15 gallons @ 4.09/gal. It is rated at 89 octane.

OK fine, but how do I know the gas I bought out there is really ethanol free? I didn't, so I bought a Fuel Testers ethanol test kit. Tonight I tested the fuel and was very pleased that it is 100% pure, the real deal. Then I tested the E10 that I drained out of my car and sure enough, it tested at just under 10% ethanol.

I am very pleased with the kit. Looking forward to seeing you there Ken. Lets hope for good weather.

Will there be a second coming of this event? I'd be very interested in this event. Hopefully it will be an annual occurrence? It need not be sponsored by anybody really. Just a high mpg championship, good times, meet like minded people, and spread the word about ecomodding.

It's funny because I brought the subject up at work just today. The organizer, [Steve Mauk] works with me and although in May we talked about doing it again this year, I haven't heard a word about it since then. So today I told Steve that I'm not sensing any "energy" regarding the event. He agreed that he doesn't have the bug this year. So unless something suddenly motivates him, I don't see him putting anything together this year. This was a very interesting event, and Mount Greylock was very challenging.

Did you run in last year's event sheepdog?

I didn't realize that I left this thread open ended from post 52. The results were described on post 23 of this thread.

No i didn't. I read the thread a week after it happened. The whole course runs through my neck of the woods though. I hike with my dog to the summit of Greylock every saturday. Never drove up it once, always thought it was a waste of fuel.

I wanna climb Mt Washington and get a bumper sticker saying "This car has never climbed Mt Washington."

3.5 hours from me. I might be able to make it on my CBR250R if you do this again.

I'm about 3 hours drive from CT's northwest corner and the Mass Berkshires. I'd be interested for later this summer or in the fall.
