Trucks! on the Spike Power Block this weekend
They tested methods of improving fuel economy, using some device that appeared to be a scangauge that would tell the average Joe what the numbers meant and what to do. They used a metered 1 gallon tank in the bed.
First test he drove normally till the 1 gallon ran out. Was something like 17 or 18 mpg.
Then he drove the same route normally with the device turned on. Made it only 0.3 miles farther, which I think is within the margin of error, especially since now the truck was warmed up.
Then he drove the same route while following the prompts on the unit to reduce load, idle up to stoplights, etc., a lot of things we do without having a gauge tell us to do it, and got something like 21 mpg.
