Someone PLEASE show me ANY documented test (hp preintout etc) showing improvement at the low end.
ALL the 'hot rodder bolt ons' (cai, k&N, flowmaster....etc......) show improvement ONLY at the top end.
Where (unless you are racing) you spend 1% of your engine's entire life.

note: if you spend more than 1% of your time at wot......your on the wrong forum.
for unloaded mpg I'd agree but with the op having a heavy burb and it being so heavy it could benefit while towing.

Here is a thread that shows improvement in the mid range & up. (quick search)

graph showing the average delta from with & without cooler
http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e2...oDataplot1.jpg

before & after data collected in the same afternoon with the cooler data being last. Ambient temps started out in the mid 80's and we finished up with the temps in the low 90's. I heat soaked the engine compartment before each set of runs (3 each before & after). All of the raw data is in that photobucket folder although not easy to read.

No offense, but those graphs don't anything about fuel efficiency. They prove you can increase midrange power which we should know is definitely possible. There is no mention of any fuel economy testing, and more midrange power doesn't mean better efficiency.

I'm an admin on a Nissan/Infiniti forum. We started a gun subforum when we realized how many owned guns.

We should have a 'boy racer' subforum here!!!!!

I wouldn't be surprised if there were others who race here. I really don't race often though, just another hobby

It is surprising how many parallels there are between fuel economy and racing/ performance modifications. At the end of the day we just enhance positive aspects of what the auto makers did well, improve on what they missed, and have fun doing it.

no offense taken, I disagree... the OP has a tank as his primary ride and uses it for towing. I also had a tank that was my primary ride and it did improve economy on that truck. Back then however I never logged the mpg data, I checked it with every fill up so I know it worked. The dyno sheet does show low end for that particular motor since at cruising speeds your at 2700~2800 rpms IIRC. Since every motor is different, mods would need to be tried on the motor to see it's effects. EVERY motor I've done this mod to has shown a performance benefit in the low-mid range, enough so that I could easily feel it with the calibrated butt dyno (includes 2 bmw's, audi, vw & the ram). I just decided to go see it's effects on a stock motor.

These days I'm focusing on 100% fuel economy. Since my motor has 650~700 ft lbs of torque the grin factor comes in play at the pump. Truck weighs 6900 lbs stock, probably is sitting around 7100 in its current config and gets darn close to 20 mpg (which is the goal). The company that produces the programmer I have just released a nice feature which allows users to write their own programs which will be a fun project to tackle...

just doing the aero mods up front including the secondary air dam, then going to play with the rear wheel air dams for partial wheel coverage, nothing major. Once that is done then Smarty UDC tuning.
