Twin 2000 Insights - This is getting rediculous.

Well I don't know what to say, I was minding my own business, walking through the lines of cars parked for one of the auctions I go to, and I saw my Insight parked among them. "Ya, nice joke, that's real funny guys" I thought to myself, thinking the auction staff had parked the Insight I bought off them last month in that night's auction cars as a joke. Then I realized it was in fact another grey, 2000 Insight, running through the same auction the first one came from! It was dirty, full of old sweat shirts, cell phone & cup holders - just the way it had been traded in at the Mazda dealership that had consigned it to the auction. They apparently had no clue what it was so they just sent it to the auction to get it off their lot! Judging by what they had the reserve set at, I am guessing they probably gave the previous owner about $1000 for trade in value for it.

So I did what any sane, financially responsible person would do - I bought this one too! How could I not really?

The new one:

The old one:

The new one has 260,000 kms, 5 speed, and needs some TLC. It was a bit more money than the old one, but it also has 100,000 less kms on it. I still don't know how I am going to pay for it, but hey that's a minor detail. According to MetroMPG, there are 369 1st gen Insights in Canada, so between he and I we have almost 1% of them! I sure hope there isn't another one at the auction anytime soon or I will end up living in one of them. Now I really really have to sell off some of my car stash to support my new hybrid habit!

Nice purchase.

I would like so much to get my hands on one of these but my gf would never let me buy a 2 seater

BTW em members in canada got 1% of insights, to get around 10% youll have to buy around 30 others

As in "worthy of ridicule." Another thing that is worthy of ridicule is ending statements with a question mark. e.g. "Hybrids are cool, I think?" Also, factually defective statements are ridiculous.

I wonder what it would cost to ship one to the other side of the Atlantic - or the long way 'round.

They're going for really silly prices here.
2000 for the car and say the same again for shipping a 20' container, they'd still be a bargain price here in Europe !

I think that he lucked out that nobody else overthere ''knew'' the real market value of the car because they normaly sell for much more on the market.

Sadly I can't edit the title, so my glaring error will have to remain there. Spot the guy that can't spell - I'll give you a hint, he has two Insights.

I have been lucky that two of them have gone through the auction, though I do go to at least three auctions a week as part of my job, so that does help my odds a bit. Apparently there is a person in Vancouver with three first gen Insights in his backyard, so I think finding his house (I have a rough idea where it is) and talking to him will be the first hybrid adventure once I get one of the twins on the road.

Nice find.

Maybe the fact that these cars are relatively unknown in Canada explains why the "beaters" are going for much less than the US prices we mostly know about. This is the 3rd that I know of that has sold for much less than average. Or maybe it's a new market emerging since these cars are starting to wear out.

--

By the way, I'm still looking for used Bridgestone RE92's (the OEM Insight tire) if you happen upon a stash of them. Or if either of yours has them but you're changing them because they're getting worn.
