We can only dream about it in Europe as well

While Vekke shows what can be done in a dedicated individual's garage, the 2L Lupo won't meet Euro V, nor any contemporary comfort or safety requirements ...

If VW wants to sell FE cars, they still need to satisfy all those requirements.

Sure, VW could save weight elsewhere, but it'd also come at a cost.
Though it needn't necessarily be XL-1 ridiculously expensive.

I'm driving my CNG up! for a lowly 3.2 euro / 100km (62 miles).
It's tough to get and keep myself - let alone other people - motivated to do better still.

In this FC territory, the law of diminishing benefits hits home really hard ...
RoI for upgrades is measured in centuries.
If I were to buy Vekke's tune covers, I'll never get the investment back ... simple as that.

Weight savings is not the main point in my lupo. I have only taken out weight to get better acceleration. There will come unofficial fuel economy race between my lupo and my customers Audi A2 which still has almost all the gadgets it had from factory. So comfort is not sacrificed like in my lupo.

Shortest route to great fuel consumption is good aero and small engine. That small engine can be built to have lots of power like I have done. Now OEMs are making high boost petrol engines because that is enough what market knows can be done. Now those 1.0 liter engines dont last and for some reason most owners dont mind.

If they would put small diesel engine it would get them 1 liter less fuel consumption and still almost same performance. At the moment BMW is testing their 1.5 liter 3 cylinder diesel engine and rumours say it will produce up to 180 hp. Then imagine putting that engine to car thats cd is 0.20 and body that would weight 1100 kg (which is easy) and you have a car that is as good as my lupo both performance and fuel consumption wise.

OEMs have their reasons not to build cars like that and its mainly related to reason people dont know they could build similar monster car like my lupo with same effort as they put to any of their cars design process. Other reason is BIG OIL manufacturers effect to oems...

Also some people still think its cool to own big V8 (and they seriously think they need it), I think its much cooler to kick V8 ass on the road with 3-cylinder 1.2 TDI performance and fuel consumption wise.

What comes to tunecovers price will drop when I got the ziptie plug ready for market.

What comes to legal issues I could build Lupo or similar but more efficient car to meet all regulations.

A smaller engine can eventually provide as much fun as a boat-anchor V8.

Do you think that those small engines will not be reliable?

We don't need to listen rumours. BMW has already given us a ton of information. That engine will produce up to 180 kW.

In NM, the local Saturday night car races had one 4-cylindar Pinto that beat every V8 on the track. Love 4-cylindar cars!

What is even better than a nice 4-cylinder engine?
The answer of course is a 3-cylinder engine!

I must say its one of my favorite things to drive to the drag races and out run most of the V8 cars with my 4 cylinder 2.0L Plus a lot of them are running open headers and slicks, then on the way home pass their trailered race cars on the freeway with my windows up and air condition on.

Changed injection timing compared to last tank.

vw 1.4 TSI engines arent realiable. Its how you desing the engine to make that hp and low friction. If you try to build a petrol engine to same efficiency levels as diesel engine you always have to make some compromises.

I have high hopes bmw 1.5 liter 3-cylinder will be tough, but what comes to power figures there arent no engines yet on the roads as far as I know. So real data comes when independent company does engine dyno tests and same goes for the fuel consumption figures also. Direction however is right with BMW.

What happens with the 1.0 EcoBoast engine? It's coming here to the states soon. I wonder how well it will sell.
