The previous gen. smart diesel could kick the Yaris' butt in terms of fuel consumption (the trade-off being 0-60 mph in 19 seconds).

Maybe they'll smarten up and offer a more efficient engine in a future model. smart XFi?

Smart is also aiming at a different market than Toyota. It's a "premium" small car (where image counts in the eyes of the buyer), sort of like the Mini.

That said, I'd be surprised if anyone on this forum would choose the current smart over the Yaris.

Haven't they made a Yaris diesel?

The Smart is kind of a joke in my opinion.

My much less aerodynamic xB with three times as much room gets ONLY slightly worse fuel economy.

The Smart is nifty, but impractical (if you have 2 friends lmao)

Hummer is terrible.

Okay I'm finished.

Hello,

The Smart gained about ~200 pounds and 250-400cc when it came to the USA. The original configuration got much better mileage.

And if Toyota builds the iQ (seats 3 adults + 1 child with just 10" more length than the Smart), then the Smart will not sell as well.
