Useful Chart for teaching/reference
I've been putting this together for some time, and I think its finally ready to put out there. It's a fully-fleshed-out Time Savings Calculator spreadsheet.
With it, you can see at a glance just how much time is saved/lost by going faster/slower than a baseline standard (I used 60 MPH as the baseline).
I hope somebody finds it amusing, at the least!

...I just use the simple "milepost" equation:
MPH = 3600 / seconds.
Seconds = 3600 / mph.
...of course, their accuracy depends upon: (A) milepost spacing accuracy and (B) timing accuracy between mileposts.

I would make the base 65mph.

Good effort, but I guess my question is, what is it supposed to be teaching?
That it saves time to drive faster? I think people are generally aware of that.

Thanks for posting the chart...but my fiance had a different take on it. I showed it to her and explained how 60 mph doesn't save that much time over 50 mph and her response...
"The only thing that chart says is if you drive slow we never get there."
Going to take some time to get her on board!

It shows that you're only saving EIGHT SECONDS PER MILE to go 75 compared to 65, and twelve seconds compared to 60.
So if you drive 15 miles @ 75 instead of @ 65, you've saved a whole whopping.........2 minutes.
Yes, we all know you save time to go faster...but is 2 minutes worth it?
I used 60 as baseline because it's 1 mile per minute.

But if you have a couple hundred miles in front of you, we're talking more than half an hour.
And if you drive 25k miles a year like that, that's 50 hours.
I think there are stronger arguments to drive slower than the time you save or lose by driving faster or slower.

apply this next to a table of your fuel millage at the various speeds and you can figure your cost per mph over 60 and your savings per mph under. Then you can make a judgment call on what your time is worth.

So a column for MPG, and a column for "CPM" - cents per mile - that is formulated based on MPG and a single cell used for storage of gas price per gallon? I can work on that.

This is EXACTLY what I was getting at.
My driving behavior changes dramatically depending on what I drive. In my truck, driving with a soft foot costs me about 30 min per day in my 45 miles of commuting, but when I'm talking about 18mpg vs 14mpg, it's a worthwhile difference in cost.
On my motorcycle, I tend to use WOT extensively and drive more aggressively. It saves me about 30min per day over driving for efficiency, but the cost is negligable at 45mpg vs 55mpg.
