Using balance weight clips for aero wheel covers?
Has anyone here tried using balance weight clips to hold aero wheel covers on the rims? I think if they can hold on a wheel weight they should hold a pizza pan or coroplast disk in place.
Of course, remove the weight first. Just use the clip. Wheel weights can be bought at Harbor Freight and probably at parts stores.

they rotate onto the edge of the rim so you have to let them swivel a bit. Ask me how I know

My guess is, they don't rotate till after you start driving? They look fine and then...

as you hammer the wheel weight on it rotates a bit.

Forewarned is forearmed. At least you can see the problem. Maybe use a BFH. Or a teeny tiny one. Or hold clip in place with ... no, not my finger.

I'd get some small weights and play with them. After you remove the lead there is not much to work with, so it will be a fun little project to try.

If you are going to go through the trouble of welding a dzus fastener to tiny little wheel weight clip, why not get a real dzus kit, with matching covers and do it right? That way the wheel is balanced with the mounts and you have little worry about unbalanced wheels.
I would think the wheel weights clips would be too much hassle for road side flat tire repairs and if you forget to cut an access hole for the valve stem
