Hmm... I wonder if I could rig up something that heated the fuel lines in my Ural? Maybe insert a metal pipe inline with the hose and wrap it with heated wire? As primitive as the engines are, I imagine any little trick would be of help.

I found it rather retarded. Coincidentally, i got 54MPG on a 10mile trip over to a friend today. And this, despite having Big oil conspiracy devices like fuel injectors and a catalytic converter in the car. ![Wink](/forum/images/smilies/wink.gif)

Hate to rain on your parade, but you need to look at this here graphic.
Graphic
Now looking at this, it seems that we lose 3% in combustion inefficiency, not sure how improving this is going to "Double" yer mileage. Is there some other part of the equation that this can help with?
Always amazed how people try to improve the 97% part of the equation and ignore the 30% thing.
Call me when you get an answer for the 70% thermal loss issue. You could triple mileage.

The vapor carburator already exists.
Ever hear of a propane carburator?
There is no way you are going to be able to vaporize gasoline better than propane or natural gas. Funny thing is when you compair gasoline to propane or natural gas sometimes the propane or natural gas beates the gasoline engine by a few % on a BTU per mile basis.
In other words, if you can fully vaporize the fuel the best result you can hope for is one that is barely measureable.

Do you have any examples?
Was it full of far out pipe dream ideas like water injecting vapor carbs?
I will stick with improving aerodynamics, reducing engine pumping losses, removing and reducing accessory loads and putting waste heat in the exhaust to work (turboing a diesel).

Gashole could have been an informative and motivational film but because of all the half-truths and obfuscation it is easy to dismiss the film's message entirely. I give it a D-; one notch above FAIL.
Finally watched " Who killed the electric car"- what a contrast! Logical presentation, absence of hocus pocus and B.S. Now I hate GM more than ever. ![Mad](/forum/images/smilies/mad.gif)

I once had a car modified with a cold vapor setup. We got the car to run with the carb turned off via a tap in the fuel line. The fuel line was clear and we could literally see the car run on invisible gas.
Car went from a best of around 38mpg at 60mph highway cruising to 54mpg on vapor but the speed could not exceed 50mph and you needed to take a packed lunch and a book to read while it got up to that speed. It was so pathetically gutless we took it off. As for trying to combine both fuel systems - it just ran rich. EFI and a tunable computer would fix that but at the end of the day no magic here - and no big gains without an equally big downside.
