VW 1-liter Concept Design Philosophy Trickles Up

The VW 1-liter Concept has a bigger brother or sister.

Where the X-1 is compromised by the two-abreast seating and lack of a flip-up hatch, this one remains pure to the original.

While I was preparing the post I discovered a VW concept from 2010 I hadn't seen before.

Well, Damon Lavrinco seems to be focusing on the practical ergonomics of getting in and out of the thing based on his extreme negativity.

There is an art being expressed here, and us always thinking about aerodynamics types can see this concept car as a possessing some aspirations in that direction, be it half-hearted.

Ingress/egress *is* a practical problem, I think they addressed it (and balanced the solution with a gas filler on the other side). I purposely didn't post a picture of the interior, leaving it as sort of an Easter egg.

The profile and frontal area are there, and it's got lots of scoops and vents for air management so they're making the effort. But looking at the rear view, it's got air intakes *inside* the exhaust vent.

In my opinion, the last two Lamborghini concepts- Veneno and this- have been complete design failures. Proportionally, graphically, everything. Because they look like a ten year old's math notebook sketches, I can't take anything about them seriously. But they do get people talking. Perhaps Lamborghini has stooped to the level of creating a stir by intentionally releasing shoddy work.

Oh, and the blue one isn't real or even VW-approved. It's someone's photochop.

Now, if someone made a monoposto CR-Z HF, that would be something to celebrate.

Sven7 -- It's called Constructivist Form. See here. I hear it's popular with the young folks.

I was looking for a picture of a monoposto Yaris, but I found this, the Honda GRX:

I went back to the original link which you provided, the interior is the best part of the car. Not from a practical point of view, just as eye candy.

This car obviously has nothing to do with the VW economy champ.

Thanks, but I also graduated from CCS in Transportation Design (glad to see that site is back online!). I don't want to be obnoxious about this, but Lamborghini knows better than to put that stuff out. The design elements don't speak to each other. It's just not a quality product.

I actually shouldn't outright say that they wanted the car to look bad. Maybe it was a concept that didn't translate to 3D. Maybe they didn't have enough time. But it's weird.

Just because it's Lamborghini doesn't mean they're infallible. It's just a group of people like you and me. They do their best; some things work and some don't. That's life.

PS- never noticed, but the GRX's door handle recalls the Z360/Z600's rear pillar badge.
