Whenever I see some of those side-by-side UTVs it gets me wondering why no-one seems to be willing to try seriously to make a roadworthy one. It wouldn't be impossible at all, plus it would eventually match the "lifestyle" approach which has led so many people to get a much larger truck or even a small SUV only for the bragging rights.

Safety regulations are a big reason for off-roaders staying there. I'm surprised that the example given is not even light enough to inspire a custom conversion. Sixty years ago, Rex McCandless had a better prototype running around.

I like that #21 at 1:06. Some pretty squirrely oversteer at 5:30. I like the off-road mule. It took to that bank like a 4WD 2CV.
cRiPpLe_rOoStEr — How about this with RAV4 electric axle and lithium batteries instead of it's golf cart motor and 4 lead acid batteries:
The original Model T was an off-road vehicle.

I haven't been able to find the Ultralite's dimensions, though it appears to be bigger than the XL1--which means so will its drag area. Overall drag might be comparable to the Sagitta.

The Ultralite seats four people, while the XL1 staggered the two seats by 18" so the passenger can be tucked in closer and behind the driver's seat. It offset the people's hips. The XL1 frontal area is a mere 1.5m / 16.15 sq ft so it is tiny, and low drag.

Sounds like we need more bench seats and Tatra 77's. (cd of 0.212)

I'd prefer something with an all-weather body.

I wonder these was hot, noise, hard days.
Such cars was hot, noisy, difficult to drive, heavy to move, and it was slow, shake and rattle. Couldn't carry much weight, had limited space.
At least the distances were ot long as today, otherwise drivers would develop a lot of problems on arms, tendons etc...
People were not obese as today because there were no much space on cars for food, and things was keept in glass jars, metal jars, no lightweight plastics to keep much food, no thermic insolation or small ice box to keep things cold.
I supose a icecream cars could not load much icecream to much people, and the ice-cream as result was expensive and kids get a small ice-cream when buy it.
Coca Cola, a smal bottle, since glass is pricy, and cooling was expensive.

All problems that could be alleviated by an EV conversion, right?
Just A Car Guy: I bet no one would have guessed these would be as good as new 100 years after they were made, but that the company that made them is just barely scraping by. 100 years from now, I imagine these cars will still be like new, and most ca
