Yes. It's saved me money, and continues to do so.

Not to derail this again but i've seen the above arguement many times
and this site seems to be a good "big picture" type of place to discuss this
If you cherry pick data from here
# of Cell Tower Sites per State in the USA | Wireless Estimator Community
http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j...z3diNv4eYgLO_g
and the 2.5 people per site average and the 2.5 sites per tower average
plus the electricity use
How much energy/electricity does a cell phone tower typically use in a month? | Answerbag
We end up at
1.4kw * 24hr = 33.6 kwhr per day for your cell phone
and this one is a cost also but not sure how to define it into this discussion.
In Race For Better Cell Service, Men Who Climb Towers Pay With Their Lives - ProPublica
And that amount does not include the normal telephone background, PCs, etc that are also required.

And really, the guys that climb those towers, they understand and accept that risk. I don't shame myself knowing that people have died doing their jobs, because they made the choice to put their life at stake for whatever money/benefits were provided.
I do the same thing every time I take a job felling trees, excavating, etc. Any of the things I do could easily kill me. It's a calculated risk that I have to take to support my family, and so I don't feel that it requires special mention.
We couldn't all have the "safe" jobs in life... nothing would ever get done.

On a broader note, you guys are displaying the sort of class separation that started this thread. I'm frankly getting tired of how people treat other people that they don't even know, or know very little about.
Get to know someone. I guarantee personally you'll find something about 99 out of 100 people that you won't like, but then at least you'll KNOW that you have a reason not to like that person, instead of just following everyone else.
You never know, someone you meet might change YOUR life, and by isolating yourself from everyone you come across, you could be missing that opportunity entirely.
The current discussion is OK, btw. As long as it doesn't turn into a *****-fest and get people upset at each other, because that sort of discourse isn't welcome on this forum as those of us who've been here for the long-haul understand. (I hope, anyway).

Back to the OP - Some cultures are different, here in the UK we may (should) say "Good morning" or "hello" to people we meet but sometimes not, but we all kind of respect each other's decisions on this - its part of the stiff upper lip that brought us "top nation" status until the 20th century.
Starbucks recently decided that the servers ("Barristas" - muppets, you mean the coffee makers - don't try and make it sound cool) should try and "engage" customers in chat which kind of annoyed people here. On one occasion the server asked the customer (annoyed) his name etc. and from the back of the queue came the classic response:
"Don't tell him pike..."
from here
Otherwise we (the UK) are kind of friendly and like to chat. Well except the Scots, some of the time. And the Welsh struggle with language...

I'll share a quick story a friend of mine told me. We'll call my friend "Mitch".
Mitch was in the market to buy a bike. Typically, the best deals (and easy room to monkey the price) are had from "ghetto" individuals of questionable moral fabric, who seemingly are in need of beer/drug money, and so will sell expensive items for pennies on the dollar for their immediate "needs".
That said, Mitch contacted a fellow from exactly that sort of background that would promote the idea that he was, in fact, a "hood rat" sort of person. He was already selling a bike for far less than it was worth, granted it needed a little work.
After going to look at a bike and doing the typical "it needs" deal to talk down the price, Mitch told the man "I'll be back later today for the title work".
Mitch showed up to pick up the man and take him to the notary to transfer the title, and told the guy up front: "I could only come up with $1500. I'll pay off the title transfer and give you what's left if you're OK with that." The man replied, "Sure, that's fine."
They head to the notary, do the transfer, Mitch doesn't register the bike then because it's not road-ready anyway... and hands the man the rest of the money, about $1425.
The man looks at Mitch, shakes his hand, humbly says "Thank you. Now I'm gonna go pay off mah medical beels." and Mitch instantly feels like a jagoff for the way he'd pre-conceived this person.
At least read the first few pages of the book before you put it down, eh?

My aunt from NY visited Oregon and commented about how annoying it was to be asked by grocery store clerks how she was, and if they could help her find anything.
A person's desire for social interaction depends on culture, genetics, upbringing, how much sleep they got...
I have found that I am much more social when in an exercise routine. Working out makes me feel good, and that extra joy makes me want to share it with others... must explain why I've been short on words the past few months.
