I have a number of crazy project car idea, I'd like to build. The silliest so far has almost nothing to do with economy (but could). Chop and channel a Jeep (CJ?), hot-rod T-bucket style. Lay back the grill and windscreen for a nice agressive look. Tall but narrow tire out back. Very narrow undriven tire in front, maybe ahead of the grill.
Keep the roll bars but chop out a foot of height, so it still looks like a classic Jeep but wildly different.

I looked into it a bit. The original show car was a roller with no drivetrain and it's gone. But here's someone who cared enough to reproduce it: 1954 Corvette Nomad Recreated by Zane Zander

There exists a picture of the Waldorf Nomad parked in front of a 1954 Chevrolet station wagon for size comparison, but I can't locate it.

It's making me wonder how would a modern Corvette-based "shooting brake" look like...

I would have to say a long standing idea of mine would be an ecomodded Lambo Diablo VT or newer model with a front engine H6 from Porsche, rear seats with rear suicide scissor doors and a rear hatch, narrower higher profile tires, Conti DWS are a fave, and have an 80 inch wide family car for all roads without it being a minivan lol

I want my t-roadster hot rod. Not dissimilar to that Jeep.

I haven't made my mind up on power plant...I think I'd like an Olds 257" straight 8. Obviously the idea isn't for raw power - how much do you need in a 1600lb jalopy? - but rather, to be a bit out of the ordinary. Other engine choices I find interesting would be an Aussie Hemi slant six, or a Lincoln V12. Lower on the totem pole, I'd consider a 351 Cleveland, Seagrave V12, Jag V12, Cadillac 331, Lincoln 430, early Hemi V8, or Ford/Chevy 300/292 straight sixes.other than that, it'd be straight rat rod

Now that I think about it, if I had the $$$ I would rock a Ferrari Colombo V12. One of the best soundtracks in all of motordom.

I really like that Vette Nomad!

Roadkill jeep (hot rod mag show, avail on youtube)

Uniflow (water jacket exiting), Wasted Steam engine (off of original) G1 insight Hybrid Land Speed Car.
The 100 year old record was only recently beat, but is still under 150. Those were for streamliners too, not production based. \thread

- Stanced rock crawler?

- I'm not picturing a front-engined Diablo.

- The Nomad sliding roof was swiped from the Studebaker Wagonaire. Which might be a reasonable base to start from:
Quote:
Daytona version[edit]
The 1963–64 Daytona version of the Wagonaire could be equipped with a V8, Carter 4-barrel carburetor, and a column mounted shifter manual transmission with overdrive. The Wagonaire could also be ordered with any of Studebaker's available "R-series" high-performance Avanti V8 engines and the four-speed floor-shift manual transmission.
Maybe the 59-61 front sheet metal would fit.
