I want to build my own. I am patiently aquiring the skills to do so. I have a few projects to do before which will include: a power wheel for my daughter, a small electric trike, and then my electric dream car.

One can dream right?

How did you like the 1.0 - same as my previous Aygo.

Nice engine, but a bit noisy when acc. More bottom end pulling power than expected from such a small engine. No problem in spinning front wheels on taking off from red on wet surfaces.

In such a low-displacement range, I'm more favorable to 3-cylinder layouts than a 4-cylinder, since they have less internal frictions and the torque pulses are stronger.

VVT makes the Toyota 3cyl (1KRFE) work. Without it that engine would be useless IMHO.

Not exactly useless, but with a narrower useful RPM band.

Useless for street use though.

Maybe I'm already used to those tiny engines which would be deemed "useless" everywhere else.

The power band would be very narrow without any gain at the top. The VVT stuff is reliable is treated to decent oil and well time changes. The sump only holds about 1/2 a conventional engine so fresh stuff every now and again is worth it.

2012 onwards Aygos hit £0 tax band by being under 100g CO2/KM which was mostly done by switching to a thinner blend of oil, which owners swap out to avoid problems.
