I didn't think what you have was possible, but it might be the best compromise for me. Do you have the 175hp 4cyl?
|
They put the 175 hp 2.8L in Colorados and Canyons from (I think) 2004 through about 2006 or 2007. After that, the base engine is a 185 hp 2.9L 4 cylinder. You might check out the 06 Canyon Modding thread to find how I get that mileage.
These trucks have to be driven slow to get good mileage. MPG drops fast over 55 MPH.

It would be killer if Volkswagen made a ext or crew cab version of the rabbit truck, with a slant back bed cover and beefier suspension, perfect little work truck

My Buick Roadmaster wagon can.
And it's for sale.

I grew up with roof racks on cars and always found them to work great! we have a photo from when I was younger, we were hauling a wind generator in the back of a VW rabbit and the tail and tower were strapped to the roof rack, of course I think it was only 60 or so feet of tower in 20 foot sections, it worked great and that roof rack went on to haul all kinds of lumber.
How often you need your vehicle to perform this type of task is also a question that is helpful to ask, because if it's every day or every few days then getting a vehicle that it just fits in can be nice, but if it's just a few times a year then digging out the folding trailer or the roof rack with extra supports for ply wood can make the cost savings well worth it.

I don't know if you can import them in the us but you could get a carry truck
these get around 40mpg with a 660cc engine.
