Good thread, yes, but now I'm tormented by the question of why the Tribeca!

Seemed like a well-thought-out "bigger" Subaru, it just didn't sell in big enough numbers to keep around.

The wider your net is cast, the more fish you'll catch.

Spambots are the electronic equivalent of a 30-mile drift net.

More like attempt to spam and fail, and go. Likely Coroplast hasn't thought about this forum again since then.

A failure of marketing and product planning.

The "flying va-female-genitalia" grille didn't help, obviously, but the problem was that it was too high a jump in price versus other Subarus and wasn't as established or as rugged as competitors.

Once the grille was fixed, it still didn't look the part of the exciting faux-SUV, like the Explorer. Even if it was arguably better. Instead, it was just... bland.

A good product should sell itself, but you've got to give people reason to look at it before you can win them over.

Tribeca- 18 MPG from an engine that only develops 250 HP? My 7000 lb truck gets that fuel economy and puts out more power. I'd give it a second look if I had more kids and the car could get 25 MPG.

Ford's ill-fated EDSEL suffered from the same social visual-image impression.

I'd give a dishonorable mention to the Cadillac 4-6-8, and various GM diesels that were built on gasoline blocks.
However, I have a blanket of scorn for all land vehicles that outweigh their average payload. For real efficiency, start with a velomobile, not a big steel box.
We have seen amazing improvements in automotive sophistication, but there's almost nothing available that weighs under a ton, or can be repaired at home. If there's no market in used parts because they all go to the crusher, I stay away.

Makes me wonder if you've ever seen a you-know-what.

The Azteck has a highly utile interior. I think it was done in by the unfortunate probiscus. If they had opened up the upper nostrils it would look like a Dodge Caliber.
