engine pulley question

I was thinking i was gonna take off my air conditioning (to get a boost in mpg of course) but i was looking and unless i can somehow reroute my belt i would get rubbing from the other pulleys. The factory engines that didnt have a/c had an idler pulley. would replacing with the pulley still give me a eco-boost since there wasn't a load (or as much anyway)? I have a 95 astro

Best thing to do in this case would be to unplug the power to the compressor clutch. Some vehicles the A/C is always cycling on when you figure it wouldn't be.
The belt driving the unloaded compressor is very efficient, I don't think doing at that work to remove/bypass it would make a measureable difference.

so if i just unplug the electrical connection then it should free spin continually correct?

The A/C should be free spinning when its off.
Unplugging the clutch assures it.
Some vehicles cycle the A/C on briefly every minute or 2 for no apparent reason.

Some vehicles, like mine, have a dedicated fuse for the AC compressor clutch. That fuse is currently removed.
