Hmiwb, I hope I didn`t come off like I was trying to knock you for anything- that certainly wasn`t my intention, anyway. I`m sure you`ll put that bike to good use and I look forward to hearing how it goes for ya

Thanks for the clarification on your drivetrain- sounds great!

Oh no way. You didn't come off that way and I didn't take any offense. I was just explaining my situation and why I'm trying to do what I'm trying to do. I love to experiment and tinker anyway so this is great for me. Thanks for your input.

I ride an old 1981 Honda XL-185s for errands and commuting to work. This little marvel usually gets around 90 MPGs. I changed out the dual purpose tires for Dunlop D-404 street tires, laced the wheels with aluminum rims off an old YZ100 to reduce rotating mass, and changed the gearing to lower the RPMs.
It's a fun bike as long as I stay off the expressways. It cruises comfortably at 50-55 mph all day long. On good days I've gotten well over 100 MPGs with it.(Must have been good tail winds =)

'06 Zongshen Sierra ZS 200. A Chinese copy of a Yamaha TW200 motor and most other chassis bits, neat-o supermoto style. Good reports of durability and mileage. First measured tank was 71mpg. Second measured tank with a 6 tooth smaller rear sprocket (40 vs 46) was 81 mpg. About 50% freeway at 60mph, the rest at about 40 mph. Small windshield, 8 gallon action packer trunk bolted to the rack. Still getting the jetting dialed in with a narrow band O2 sensor and gauge.

1988 Kawasaki Concours. 108hp, 1000cc. Fantastic weather coverage for a motorcycle. Just about 54mpg average same commute as above. A full 85 mph tank though gets just 36mpg, sheesh!

the best i've gotten on my 08 ninja 250 is 89mpg. And average about 68mpg

For the 89 i was really trying to see if i could hit 100, but i dont think its possible . kept it under 50mph which is my commute most of the time anyway.

I recently changed sprockets in the hopes to see 100mpg

it would be really hard to hit 100 mpg on the newer ninja 250, unless you took the cams from the older ninja 250 and swapped them. but with the stock setup, maybe 90 with seriously easy driving. your 89 mpg is probably the best you will get, and i still dont see how you did that.

if you drove steady at 35 mph, in top gear, after putting on 15/42 sprockets, for 3 hours, then maybe you could get 100 mpg. but man, would that be boring.
