Wheel skirts have no effect
Well, mocked up some decent wheel skirts, and while the attachment and construction went well, and they looked badass (for a mockup), they gave no increase in coast distance, this car is full of aerodynamic surprises.

The car is the one that is my screen name, the pre and post coast downs are identical, at about 38 seconds, I didn't bother with pictures.

The French one (Peugeot iOn) looks nice:
But I believe we're talking about the Saturn Ion:
I don't think either of those two cars would look bad with skirts, even if they didn't help much.
How many tries did you give the skirts? It is possible that they didn't help enough to notice, which would mean that the Ion's designers either did a good job of nicely reattaching the airflow behind the rear wheelwell, or they did a good job of messing everything up so there is no help. The gains from rear skirts may also show up only in combination with a Kammback/boattail and/or bellypan.

Yes, the saturn. It looks good with skirts, but I'd they don't do anything, I still have them, and will try them in conjunction with front wheel fairings next weekend, butI am not even getting materials for the finished product, yet.

What other aero changes have you done/tried? Sometimes, you need to solve the biggest issues first, so that the smaller issues are not swamped. Coasting distance also depends heavily on tires -- what pressure are you using?

Since your car is newer than 1996, I highly reccomend some form of MPG computer for your OBDII port. That will give you a wealth of knowledge without making any other changes.

I have already taken a huge aerodynamic loss off my car by installing a rear under pan. My tires ate original to the car, at a little overstock pressures. I also have a scan gauge 2.
